Tulane University Desegregation Commemorative Event: 2/27/2013

The Anna Julie Cooper Project on Gender, Race and Politics in the South will host an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the desegregation of Tulane University on Wednesday, February 27, at 6:30pm in the Kendall Cram Room of the Lavin-Bernick Center on Tulane’s campus. The desegregation of Tulane University occurred somewhat quietly, especially compared to contemporary events in the South at the time in February 1963.

The Amistad Research Center has primary source materials on the desegregation of Tulane, most substantially in the papers of activist Rosa Keller and lawyer John P. Nelson.

Cheryl Cunningham’s 1982 MA thesis, The Desegregation of Tulane University, can be read online here.
